The move by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy has been described as a means by former Governor Nyesom Wike to seek relevance.
A policial commentator and who is also from the Niger Delta region, Hon. Jonah Okah, who stated this, added that from the look of things and with the political calculations on ground, the impeachment move would not see the light of the day.
“The policial calculations have changed from what they were before the imposition of Emergence Rule in the state last year. Then Fubara was in the Peoples Democratic Party. Now he has moved fully into the All Progressives Congress and the national leadership of the APC seems to be in support of the governor.

“Mind you, Wike tried everything to frustrate Fubara from joining the APC because he knows Fubara would become the leader of the party in Rivers. That he does not want. It was through the efforts of Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State and other APC governors that Fubara was allowed in to the chagrin of Wike.
“Also, you know that Wike began his latest round of trouble because the National Security Adviser and other APC leaders, including the National Secretary visited Fubara and commended him. Wike said they did that because of the N600 billion in the state’s purse. Do you think the NSA, who Wike lambasted, would advise the President to allow the impeachment to go on? He submitted.
Okah added that Wike is only acting like a drowning man and that a suave politician like President Bola Tinubu would not allow such a thing to happen.
“The President would rather call the warring parties for a truce meeting,” he noted.
Recall that the Assembly on Thursday morning cut short its holiday and resumed to commence impeachment proceedings against Fubara and his deputy, Prof Ngozi Odu over what it described as gross misconduct on the part of the governor.
During the plenary on Thursday, the Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, accused the governor of changing the state’s money into dollars and paid same to people from Abuja to influence President Bola Tinubu to prevail over the lawmakers not to summon governor Fubara to present the 2025 budget before it.

The Majority Leader, Major Jack, read out the notice of allegations and gross misconduct against Fubara with twenty-six lawmakers in House signing the notice, which they alleged was against the Nigerian Constitution.
Amaewhule said the notice would be served on Fubara in the next seven days. The Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Linda Stewart, also read out the notice of allegations and gross misconduct against Oduh.
