Presidency mocks Atiku and Peter Obi after APC secures 12 of 16 bye-election seats, taunting opposition over heavy losses ahead of 2027 polls.
The Presidency has ridiculed opposition leaders Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Labour Party’s (LP) former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s sweeping victory in Saturday’s bye-elections.
Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, took to his X account on Monday morning, posting: “How is the market now?” alongside a photo featuring Atiku, Obi and other ADC members.
Although he did not directly mention names, the taunt was widely interpreted as aimed at the opposition, who suffered heavy losses in the polls.
The bye-elections were conducted to fill seats left vacant by lawmakers who either died or resigned after the 2023 general elections.
According to results, the ruling APC secured 12 of the 16 contested seats, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won two, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured one, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) clinched one.
Meanwhile, the Zamfara seat was declared inconclusive, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yet to announce a fresh date for the rerun.
Political observers note that the APC’s dominant performance underscores its continued electoral strength ahead of the 2027 general elections, while opposition parties face mounting pressure to reganise.
