Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has signed the ₦1.669 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, ushering in a fiscal year focused on “Sustainable Legacy.”
The signing ceremony, held at the governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, marks a historic 58% increase over the 2025 budget.
Abiodun in a statement yesterday on his X page, described the leap as a testament to the state’s rapidly growing financial capacity and its resolute commitment to a transformative development agenda.

The “Budget of Sustainable Legacy” represents a significant shift toward capital-intensive growth.
Of the total ₦1.669 trillion, a staggering ₦1.044 trillion is earmarked for Capital Expenditure, while ₦624.76 billion is allocated for Recurrent Expenditure.
The budget prioritised key sectors across the economy.
Infrastructure received the largest allocation of ₦526.15 billion, accounting for 32 per cent of total spending.
Education was allocated ₦275.40 billion, representing 17 per cent, while the health sector received ₦210.59 billion, or 13 per cent.
Housing and community development were allocated ₦166.96 billion, amounting to 10 per cent of the budget.
In line with his administration’s tradition of fiscal predictability, Abiodun confirmed that implementation will begin immediately after the New Year holidays.
“Signing the budget before the end of the year allows our development programmes to proceed without delay,” the governor stated.
He emphasised that the state would focus on aggressive revenue generation and prudent spending to ensure every naira delivers lasting value to the people of Ogun State.
The governor extended high praise to the Speaker, Oludaisi Elemide, and members of the Ogun State House of Assembly.
He commended their diligence in scrutinizing the bill and their cooperation in ensuring its timely passage.

“Their thorough scrutiny and collaborative engagement with the Executive underscore our shared commitment to serving the best interests of Ogun State,” Abiodun noted.
The 2026 budget aims to consolidate the administration’s “ISEYA” development pillars—focusing on infrastructure, social welfare, education, youth empowerment, and agriculture—to cement a lasting legacy of prosperity.
