Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has accused activist and journalist Omoyele Sowore of fearing his “scamming shadow” and using false allegations to evade justice.
In a statement released on Saturday, Olayinka dismissed Sowore’s claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Minister Wike sought to assassinate him as mere “mind games” aimed at sustaining his alleged fraudulent activities.
He urged Sowore to face his ongoing criminal trial and challenged him to present evidence supporting his accusations against President Tinubu.
Olayinka further alleged that Sowore has been involved in corruption, including selling the African Action Congress (AAC) governorship ticket in Rivers State for $3 million and misappropriating funds meant for the EndSARS movement.
The statement suggested that any threats to Sowore’s life likely come from individuals he has scammed or blackmailed, not from President Tinubu or Minister Wike.
He accused Sowore of using his online platform, SaharaReporters, to extort money while neglecting his staff and accused him of desperate attempts to distract from the serious charges he faces.
Responding to Sowore’s claims that Wike had purchased properties in the United States, Olayinka described the allegations as irrelevant and unrelated to the corruption charges against the activist.
The statement read, “Did the Minister deny that his wife has properties in the US? Is it an offence for anyone to own properties in the US through inheritance or purchase? Is that his defence for engaging in Yahoo Yahoo by collecting millions of dollars from foreign donors under false pretence?”
Olayinka concluded by warning Sowore to stop implicating President Tinubu and Minister Wike in his troubles, describing his recent outbursts as the “last kick of a dying horse.”
