The immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has dismissed rumours of his defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement on his X page Monday night, Fayemi reaffirmed his commitment to the party, stating that he has always been a foundational, card-carrying member of the APC and that his position remains unchanged.
He said: “My attention has been drawn to a story circulating on several online platforms regarding my defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“While I have been at the vanguard of demand for greater internal democracy and inclusion in the ruling party, I believe it is still not too late for our party to change course and move towards greater inclusion and internal democracy.”

The New Daily Prime reported that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, resigned from the APC on Monday and joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
El-Rufai attributed his defection to a growing misalignment between his personal values and the APC’s current trajectory.
In a press statement shared on his X handle, he expressed disappointment with the party’s leadership, accusing it of abandoning the progressive ideals upon which it was founded
