Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has formally registered as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Amaechi completed the registration process on Friday at Ward 8 in Ubima Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The move came only hours after the ADC office in the community was reportedly set on fire by unidentified individuals.
Residents said they woke up to an early morning blaze that destroyed part of the party’s office building and created panic in the area.
Speaking to supporters who gathered to welcome him, Amaechi cautioned against any form of retaliation or violence.
“Don’t be violent because violence may lead to the death of somebody — don’t be violent. At the same time, they can’t stop us from meeting in our community,” he said.
He also commended the response of security agencies following the incident.
“We thank the commissioner of police and the director of DSS. They showed a lot of professionalism. In fact, I wasn’t expecting that from them; I thought they would be behind the criminals.”
Amaechi further called on security authorities to investigate the incident and ensure those responsible for burning the ADC office in Ubima are identified and brought to justice.
