In a strategic move to bolster its grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 general elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Enugu State chapter inaugurated its Women Wing and Elders Council of Women on Saturday at the Done Event Centre.
The event marked a significant step in empowering women to drive the party’s agenda at the grassroots level, positioning Enugu as the first state in Nigeria to establish such a women’s structure within the APC.
Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, addressed the gathering, urging the women to remain steadfast and lead the charge for the APC’s success in Enugu by 2027.
He emphasized their critical role, stating, “When women rise, families are lifted.
When women lead, communities are transformed. And when women believe, nations are renewed.”
Nnaji praised the women’s courage and unity, describing them as the torchbearers of progress and key to securing the state for the APC.
He highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places women at the heart of Nigeria’s transformation, affirming their role in building a stronger, fairer nation.
Nnaji underscored the importance of grassroots mobilization, noting that women constitute 60 to 70 percent of attendees at ward-level meetings.
“This inauguration is about empowering women to take charge of their initiatives at the grassroots,” he said in an interview, adding that similar efforts would soon extend to the Youth Wing.
He criticised the current state administration, citing scandals like the Smart Green School project and water provision issues, and accused the incumbent governor of winning the last election unfairly.
Nnaji stressed that the APC’s focus on grassroots politics would ensure transparent elections and deliver leaders with the capacity to address Enugu’s challenges.
Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Emma Eneukwu, emphasized the women’s electoral influence, describing them as a “web” capable of mobilizing 70,000 to 80,000 votes.
He noted that the women present were carefully selected leaders who would carry the party’s message to the grassroots, ensuring effective voter education and mobilization.
National Woman Leader Mary Alile, who officiated the inauguration, celebrated Enugu APC’s historic achievement and urged the women to promote Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in their communities to secure his re-election in 2027.
State Chairman Ugochukwu Agballah described the event as a milestone for the APC in Nigeria, thanking Tinubu for his leadership and Nnaji for his financial support.
The inauguration reflects the APC’s commitment to leveraging women’s influence to transform Enugu’s political landscape, setting the stage for a formidable campaign in 2027.
