The newly inaugurated Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has called on Governor Monday Okpebholo to provide clarity on the $250 million investment agreement signed with the European African Chamber of Commerce and Industries (EuroAfrica CCI).
In a statement issued yesterday by Publicity Secretary Daniel Osa-Ogbegie, the PDP described the deal as a “source of embarrassment” to Edo residents, demanding transparency on its details.
The Edo State Government announced on 25 September 2025 that governor secured the agreement during the 2025 Edo State Global Investment Summit in Glasgow, Scotland.
The five-year deal, outlined by Chief Press Secretary Fred Itua, aims to channel investments into agriculture, mining, technical education, renewable energy, and green infrastructure.
However, the PDP vowed to scrutinise the agreement’s legitimacy and question the alleged abandonment of projects initiated under former Governor Godwin Obaseki, highlighting concerns over opaque fiscal practices.
Osa-Ogbegie reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to holding the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government accountable, stating, “Our allegiance remains with the people of Edo State.
“Where governance falters into oppression, waste, or deception, we shall stand firmly with the people.” The party pledged to support policies that uplift residents but promised robust opposition to mismanagement.
The PDP also urged APC Publicity Secretary Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie and Commissioner for Information Paul Ohonbamu to engage in issues-based discourse, warning that “reckless utterances” would be met with facts.
The statement followed the inauguration of the PDP’s new executive committee on Saturday, replacing the caretaker committee, as the party gears up to challenge the APC’s governance ahead of the 2027 elections.
