Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), has been granted bail in the sum of N10 million, with the condition of providing one surety in an equal amount.
Justice Musa Liman of the Federal High Court in Abuja, who granted the convener of the #RevolutionNow movement bail said the surety must be a reputable individual with landed property worth the same value.
The New Daily Prime earlier reported that the Ondo-born politician was facing 17 counts of cybercrime.
He was accused by the Nigerian Police Force of using his verified X handle to post a tweet referring to the Inspector General of Police as “illegal IGP Kayode Egbetokun.”

The police have claimed that the statement was false and intended to incite public disorder.
Justice Liman noted that the surety is required to submit the original documents of the property along with a passport photograph to the court’s registrar.
The judge also instructed Sowore to surrender his international passport to the registrar.
The judge gave Sowore 24 hours to fulfil the bail conditions, warning that failure to do so would result in his remand by the police until the conditions are met.
