Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has declared that former President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure outshines the records of the late President Muhammadu Buhari and incumbent Bola Tinubu.
Speaking on Arise Television on Tuesday, George defended Jonathan’s presidency while addressing speculation about his potential candidacy in the 2027 presidential election.
George dismissed comparisons between Jonathan’s administration (2010–2015) and those of Buhari (2015–2023) and Tinubu (2023–present), urging respect for the will of Nigerians.
“Jonathan’s period cannot be compared to Buhari’s or Tinubu’s era,” he stated, pointing to worsening economic conditions under the All Progressives Congress (APC). “Ask any Nigerian what they’ve felt since Buhari’s time to now.
Look at the economic indices interest rates, inflation, the naira’s value against the dollar. Who is happy now, rich or poor?”
He highlighted the soaring cost of living, noting that items once priced at 5,000 Naira now cost around 25,000 Naira. George challenged the APC’s economic claims, asserting that Jonathan’s record is “much better” than those of Buhari and Tinubu combined.
“Any candidate must present their credentials, and Nigerians will compare their experience under Jonathan with the current APC government,” he said.
The PDP chieftain’s remarks come amid growing speculation, fuelled by Professor Jerry Gana’s claim that Jonathan will contest in 2027 under the PDP banner.
