Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Tinubu to “admit incompetence” in the face of worsening insecurity across the country.
In a statement posted on his X page yesterday, the former PDP presidential candidate urged Tinubu to either seek external assistance or resign, following the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba by terrorists.
Atiku said he was deeply shocked and disturbed by the general’s death, which occurred alongside the deaths of several troops under his command.

He criticised the military hierarchy for failing to provide a coherent account of the incident after initial official denials suggested the reports were untrue.
He described the tragic development as a failure of political leadership, accusing Tinubu of being more focused on decimating the opposition by all means than fulfilling his constitutional duty as Commander-in-Chief.
Atiku warned that the killing of Gen. Uba was one death too many and signalled a “bold terrorist resurgence that our dear country cannot afford.”
Addressing the President directly, he stressed that safeguarding the lives of citizens is the foremost responsibility of the Commander-in-Chief.
He stated: “You must live up to it or be humble enough to admit incompetence and either ask for help or resign.”
Offering what he framed as an alternative leadership approach, Atiku said that if he were President, he would immediately order the military to “occupy Borno State or any state under siege by bandits or armed groups until those areas are cleared.”

He also underscored the need to prioritise the welfare of military personnel, stating: “We must care enough for the men and women who put their lives on the line for our sake.”
Atiku extended his condolences to the Nigerian Armed Forces, the family of the deceased officer, and all Nigerians, expressing hope that this dark period passes over us as a nation, sooner rather than later.
