The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has stated that members of the party are not cowards and cannot be intimidated, despite a recent wave of attacks targeting ADC members in various states.
Aregbesola, a former Minister of Interior, made the remarks on Thursday following reports of violence against party members in Kaduna, Lagos, and most recently, Ondo State.
Speaking during a press briefing, he said:
“Just as our Chairman has rightly said, we are not fighting anyone. It is only a coward who would entertain fears. Ignore those saying negative things about us and remain steadfast. We are not greenhorns in this political struggle, so no one can intimidate us.”
The comments come a day after suspected political thugs stormed a Ward meeting of the ADC in Akure, the Ondo State capital. The attack left at least three people hospitalised, with eyewitnesses claiming the assailants were linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Confirming the incident, ADC Ondo State Chairman, Asiwaju Wole Ademoyegun, described the attack as a “calculated act of political intimidation.”
He urged security agencies to investigate the incident thoroughly and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
While the APC has yet to officially respond to the allegations, tensions are reportedly rising as the 2026 general elections approach, raising concerns over political violence and suppression of opposition voices.
The ADC has vowed to continue its activities undeterred and called on its supporters nationwide to remain resolute in the face of what it calls orchestrated provocation.
