Former Rivers State Governor and prominent African Democratic Congress (ADC) member, Rotimi Amaechi, has confirmed his intention to run for president in 2027.
During a recent meeting with journalists and a coalition of traders in Kano, Amaechi was unequivocal, stating there would be “no retreat, no surrender” in his pursuit of the ADC presidential ticket.
The former Minister of Transportation, who held the position from 2015 to 2022, emphasized that he would not step aside for any other aspirant.

In an interview with BBC Hausa Service, he declared, “I will contest the ADC presidential primary, and by God’s grace, I hope to win so that I can face Tinubu in 2027.”
He added, “I am not stepping down for anyone. Let the people decide who they want to lead.”
Amaechi maintained that an open contest for the party’s ticket is essential for internal democracy.
Commenting on the current state of the nation, Amaechi criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu, stating that Nigerians are unhappy with his policies.
“Nigerians are tired because no one is happy under Tinubu, the truth is people are suffering everywhere,” he said, alleging that Tinubu’s appointments have not been truly inclusive, rewarding only a select few close to him.
On the possibility of the ADC zoning its presidential ticket to the South, Amaechi stated that he would abide by the party’s decision.
However, he also argued for his own qualifications, asserting that he is one of the most prepared aspirants, with a candidacy that offers unity across different regions of the country.

Amaechi also dismissed claims that his political influence in Rivers State has diminished, citing a recent massive turnout for an ADC inauguration rally in the state, which he said was achieved without any payment for mobilization.
He suggested this public support is an indication of where the people’s allegiance lies.
