Senate President Godswill Akpabio has indicated to President Bola Tinubu that the All Progressives Congress (APC) should anticipate a further influx of state governors from opposition parties.
He said this will signal a potential shift in the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Akpabio, a number of opposition governors are finalising their plans to align with Tinubu and the ruling party.

He attributed this readiness to the increasing recognition by Nigerians of the positive impact of the current administration’s policies.
Akpabio shared this perspective while delivering a goodwill message at an event in Owerri, which included the official book launch of “Ten Years Of Impactful Leadership of The APC Administration in Nigeria” by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, and the commissioning of various projects by Tinubu.
In a formal statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio directly addressed the President, saying, “With your accomplishments over the past two years, Mr President, prepare to welcome more governors from rival parties. As a matter of fact, several governors across Nigeria are currently poised to join your ranks.”
He further commented that the public is now experiencing the tangible benefits of Tinubu’s leadership.
Akpabio noted that different segments of the population—including students, farmers, and business people—are discussing the various governmental reforms that are beginning to yield positive results for the overall well-being of the populace.
“If we [in government] praise your achievements, people might accuse us of blindly supporting you, but the people who are directly benefiting are the ones speaking about your accomplishments,” Akpabio stated.
Akpabio expressed his strong belief in advancement and development.
He praised Uzodimma for documenting the history of the party’s impact through his book.
He stressed that preserving one’s narrative is essential, otherwise others will control it.
“Progressiveness is not about rhetoric; it’s demonstrated through action,” he said, commending the high standard of work completed by the governor and noting that the people of Imo State must be delighted.

Akpabio drew a parallel to his time as Governor of Akwa Ibom State 18 years ago, stating that the projects he implemented then already established him as a progressive leader.
He then offered his congratulations to Uzodimma and the APC national leadership for the party’s decade of achievements.
