The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a scathing statement accusing the APC-led Federal Government of gross insensitivity, warning that it will join indigenous contractors and pensioners in street protests if long-overdue payments are not made immediately.
In a strongly worded release on Sunday, the opposition party expressed outrage over the spectacle of local contractors who, for several weeks, have camped outside the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja carrying symbolic coffins to demand settlement of certified debts exceeding N500 billion.

Similarly, it condemned the threat by pensioners to march naked should the government continue to withhold pension arrears and approved increments promised over a year ago.
“No serious government allows its citizens to be driven to the indignity of protesting with coffins or threatening naked marches before their legitimate demands are met,” the ADC declared, describing the situation as a national embarrassment that damages Nigeria’s image and devastates ordinary livelihoods.
The party challenged the administration’s repeated claims of “meeting and surpassing revenue targets,” asking: “If the finances are truly as robust as claimed, why are verified contractors still owed hundreds of billions for completed projects? Why are pensioners still awaiting palliatives and increments approved long ago? You cannot boast of revenue excellence while drowning citizens in unpaid debts. Something is not adding up.”

The ADC further accused the government of diverting attention and resources towards early 2027 re-election preparations including the distribution of campaign vehicles and mobilisation of coordinators while deliberately neglecting contractual and pension obligations.
Declaring unconditional solidarity with the aggrieved groups, the party warned: “We have taken note of the untold suffering and humiliation they have endured. This must end now. The ADC is fully prepared to march alongside the contractors and pensioners if the government refuses to act immediately.”
The statement concluded with a pledge to continue standing with citizens “pushed into hardship by this administration’s failures,” vowing to rebuild trust where the APC has destroyed it and to uphold responsibilities the government has abandoned.
