The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State has inaugurated an interim caretaker executive committee to guide the party’s operations until a formal leadership election is conducted.
The party decided that as part of its strategy to strengthen its position ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ceremony, held on Sunday, was presided over by the ADC’s North East Zonal Vice Chairman, David Lawal Babachir, who underscored the move as a critical step to stabilise and unify the party.
Babachir, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation under President Muhammadu Buhari, stated that the interim committee was established following extensive consultations and approval by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), in strict adherence to the ADC’s constitution.
“The leadership you see today is legitimate because it followed due process,” he affirmed, warning that indiscipline or defiance would not be tolerated.
He relayed a stern message from the National Chairman, Senator David Mark, who reiterated the party’s commitment to its constitutional principles, stating that those opposed to them “have no place in the ADC.”
Urging unity, Babachir acknowledged the inevitability of criticism in politics but called for steadfast commitment to the party’s values.
“Every politician must expect criticism, but that should not change our character or resolve,” he said, appealing for harmony among members.
In his acceptance speech, the newly appointed interim chairman, Barrister Sadiq Dasin, a former federal lawmaker and ex-Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in his team.
Describing his role as “a child of necessity,” Dasin pledged to foster unity and prioritise women and youth participation.
“I assure you that 60% of elective positions in forthcoming congresses will be reserved for women and youth, recognising their vital role in our success,” he declared.
He further committed to ensuring transparent, fair, and credible congresses across the state.
Dasin called on aggrieved members to rally behind the interim leadership, emphasising inclusivity as the ADC prepares to challenge rivals in 2027.
