The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has confirmed that it is engaged in preliminary discussions with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) regarding a possible alliance to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, disclosed this during a media briefing in Abuja. He indicated that the talks form part of broader efforts to realign opposition forces amid growing concerns over the state of the nation.

Abdullahi stressed, however, that the primary objective of any potential coalition is not simply to unseat President Bola Tinubu, but to address the profound challenges facing Nigerians and improve their quality of life.
He described the current situation as an “existential challenge” unprecedented in the country’s history, citing deteriorating economic and social indices that have left many citizens disillusioned.
“We are having preliminary conversations. It is possible, and like we said, any party, any group of politicians or political group that is willing to work with us because the situation we face today as a country is an existential challenge,” Abdullahi said.
He added: “Nigeria has never been where we are today as a country and as a people… Anyone that has anything to contribute, that may believe that this one today is not the Nigeria that we know, it’s not the Nigeria that supports the dream and ambitions of millions of citizens regardless of who their father or mother are/is, then they are welcome to work with us.”
The ADC spokesman further clarified the party’s priorities: “People talk about how do you stop President Bola Tinubu or how we can take power from him. I can assure you that is not our interest. We don’t have meetings and sit down and be discussing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We discuss how do we ease the pains that every Nigerian is facing. It’s the only thing that can justify our existence.”
In a parallel move to strengthen its internal structures, the ADC has inaugurated a Constitution Review Committee, co-chaired by former Imo State Governor and ex-Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, and former Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe.

The committee has been directed to submit an interim report along with proposed constitutional amendments to the National Working Committee within 30 days.
Party leaders say the exercise will reinforce democratic principles, promote internal unity, and enhance grassroots mobilisation nationwide.
