The governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ekiti State, Ayodele David-Adesua, has vowed that no act of violence will derail the party’s mission to restore good governance ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Speaking in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, David-Adesua condemned the “barbaric and cowardly” attack on the ADC’s newly inaugurated state secretariat, where suspected political thugs set the building ablaze, vandalised properties, and assaulted party members during an executive committee inauguration on Tuesday.
“This isn’t just an attack on a building it’s an assault on the democratic hopes of Ekiti’s people,” David-Adesua said, his voice echoing the frustration of supporters who see the ADC as a beacon of hope against misrule.
Undeterred, he declared, “From these ashes, we’ll rise stronger, bolder, and united. No intimidation will stop our fight for justice and dignity.” His defiance resonates with many in Ekiti who feel their aspirations for better governance are under siege.
David-Adesua insisted the ADC’s mission is “divinely ordained” and driven by the people’s will. “We won’t bow to oppression or saboteurs,” he said, rallying supporters to confront corruption and tyranny with courage.
His words inspire party members like Funmi, a local trader, who said, “We’re tired of fear. Apostle’s strength gives us hope.”
Former Interior Minister and ADC National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola, present at the inauguration, also condemned the attack as a “shameful” threat to democracy.
“Resorting to violence to silence opposition is fascism,” he said, reflecting the fears of citizens who value democratic freedoms.
Meanwhile, the Ekiti State Police Command has launched an investigation, while INEC has set the governorship election for 20 June 2026.
