The African Democratic Congress (ADC), under the leadership of Nafiu Bala Gombe, has strongly criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for holding what it describes as an “illegitimate” meeting with purported ADC stakeholders in Adamawa State.
The faction labelled the gathering a politically motivated “sham” aimed at creating a false impression of legitimacy and support.
In a statement released yesterday by Dr. Christopher Okechukwu, the Director of Media and Public Affairs for the ADC faction, expressed the party’s disapproval, asserting that the meeting lacked the endorsement of the ADC’s national leadership and did not reflect the party’s interests in Adamawa State.
The statement highlighted concerns about the attendees, many of whom were described as former members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who had left their parties due to “perceived irrelevance.”
“The National Leadership of the ADC brings to the fore a pressing concern that warrants scrutiny,” the statement read.
“A closer examination of the attendees reveals a troubling trend: many are former APC and PDP members who abandoned their parties.
Their presence at the meeting appears to be a calculated publicity stunt rather than a genuine attempt to contribute to the progress of the party.”
The party faction questioned the motives behind the meeting, describing it as a “desperate attempt” to feign support and legitimacy.
The statement further noted that the purpose and outcomes of the gathering remain unclear, raising doubts about its tangible benefits.
The faction urged the public and political observers to scrutinise such developments and demand transparency and accountability from those seeking to align with the ADC.
“We call on the public to insist on due process in all political collaborations,” Dr Okechukwu added.
“The questionable credentials of the attendees and the dubious purpose of the meeting raise serious concerns about the true intentions of the convener.”
