The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly condemned violent disruptions that marred the inauguration of its Transitional Committee and Membership Registration Committees in Borno State, insisting that the exercise was fully authorised by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
In a press statement released on Friday and signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC affirmed that the inauguration, which saw Mallam Kashim Imam appointed as chairman of the Transitional Committee, complied with all party guidelines and institutional processes.

The statement described the actions of certain individuals who claimed to be party members as “inconsistent with ADC values” and a direct attempt to frustrate lawful party activities.
The violence reportedly occurred during the event, which took place amid an ongoing leadership tussle in the Borno State chapter of the ADC.
Earlier reports indicate that the state chairman, Alhaji Umar Bolori, and other local executives had disassociated themselves from the committees, labelling them unauthorised and accusing Imam aprominent figure and former TETFund Board Chairman of attempting to hijack party structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The national leadership, however, sided firmly with the inaugurated committees. The statement read: “The ADC condemns in the strongest terms the conduct of certain individuals who… engaged in violent and disruptive actions aimed at frustrating lawful party exercise. Such actions run contrary to the ADC Constitution, its values, and its long-standing commitment to internal democracy and orderly political engagement.”

The party emphasised its status as a law-abiding organisation governed by clear rules, vowing not to allow its internal affairs to be undermined by those pursuing “narrow personal interests” at the expense of unity and stability.
It further called on the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to investigate the reported attacks on ADC members impartially and professionally, ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice.
“Political violence must not be normalised or excused under any circumstance,” the statement added. The ADC reiterated its dedication to peaceful political organisation, internal democracy, and the rule of law, promising to pursue all necessary internal and legal measures to safeguard its members, processes, and overall integrity.
