The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark has delivered a poignant New Year message to Nigerians, urging unity, faith, and collective action to reclaim the country in 2026.
In a statement released on behalf of the ADC, the former Senate President reflected on the challenges of 2025, describing it as a year of profound difficulty for most citizens.
He highlighted widespread hardship, soaring living costs, and unfulfilled government promises under the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, including stringent new taxes that have exacerbated poverty.

Mark paid tribute to fallen soldiers, security personnel, and civilians lost to insurgency, banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping, calling for prayers for their families.
He acknowledged public scepticism born of repeated disappointments but appealed to Nigerians to rise above cynicism and join the ADC’s “historic mission”.
The message emphasised the significance of the opposition coalition formed under the ADC banner on 2 July 2025, which Mark described as a necessary response to Nigeria’s drift towards authoritarian one-party rule.
The coalition, now strengthened by figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, aims to restore democratic accountability and present a united front ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We do not claim to be perfect,” Mark stated, “but we do not doubt our sense of duty and our commitment to be on the good side of history.”

He urged citizens to unite not with violence or anger, but with vision and courage, declaring that “2026 can be the year we begin to take our country back, the year the poor begin to breathe again.”
Concluding on an optimistic note, Mark expressed faith in the power of the people and the possibility of a better Nigeria.
“Let us walk into the new year, not in fear, but in faith,” he said, extending heartfelt New Year wishes and invoking blessings on the ADC and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
