Former Kogi West senator, Dino Melaye, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is beyond redemption, claiming the opposition party is now effectively controlled by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Melaye dismissed any chance of revival for the PDP, likening its state to irreversible death.
“Apart from our Lord Jesus Christ, no dead can rise again. PDP is dead and buried. The party was sold, and I’m not sure they even got the payment receipt. What you have now is an APC-controlled PDP,” he said.
The ex-lawmaker alleged that operatives loyal to the APC have taken over the PDP, directing its affairs from the Presidential Villa.
“It is a party that has been controlled from the villa. I have said before that as far as we are concerned, it is the agents of the APC that control the PDP,” Melaye added.
Melaye, who once ran for office under the PDP, confirmed he has now joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He described the ADC as the platform capable of defeating President Bola Tinubu and removing the APC from power in the 2027 general elections.
“I’m a proud member of the ADC, and by the grace of God, that is the party that will unseat Tinubu and send APC out of the villa come May 29, 2027,” he declared.
While shifting attention away from the PDP’s internal troubles, the former senator urged Nigerians to concentrate on the real challenges confronting the country.
“There are critical issues bedevilling this country: hunger, malnutrition, misgovernance, and maladministration. Those are the issues I think we should discuss, not a dead party,” he said.
Melaye exits PDP
The New Daily Prime earlier reported that Melaye resigned from the PDP in July 2025.
Melaye’s decision to leave the party was disclosed in a letter dated July 4, and addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Aiyeroro Gbede, Ijumu LGA of Kogi state.
In the letter shared on his X handle, he cited “lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation” as reason for his exit.
