The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State, Mr Edward Marshall, has declared that only a coalition led by the PDP can unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking yesterday at the party’s secretariat in Kaduna while receiving members of the Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim (GOH-Front) political group, Marshall emphasised the party’s unmatched national structure as key to mounting a formidable challenge.
The GOH-Front group had visited to protest the PDP National Executive Committee’s decision to zone the 2027 presidential ticket to the South, a move they argued could limit the party’s inclusivity.
Addressing journalists after receiving their petition, Marshall welcomed the idea of coalitions but stressed that the party’s extensive nationwide presence makes it the only viable platform to lead such an alliance.
“Coalitions are welcome, but no party has structures across the country like the PDP.
Take it or leave it, PDP is the only party that can provide that kind of structure,” he asserted.
Marshall lambasted the APC’s governance, citing widespread disillusionment among Nigerians due to economic hardship, soaring living costs, and deepening poverty under its leadership since 2015.
He argued that these failures have eroded public trust in the ruling party, creating an opportunity for the opposition party to capitalise on public discontent.
“Nigerians have lost faith in the APC after years of hardship,” he said, positioning the PDP as the alternative to deliver effective governance.
The chairman expressed confidence in the party’s revival, noting that the party’s forthcoming national convention, scheduled for 15-16 November 2025, would attract returning members and reinvigorate its base.
He predicted a surge in defections from other parties, bolstering the opposition party’s momentum ahead of 2027.
