Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced that a heavyweight group of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftains, previously known as staunch allies of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, have resolved to support President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
The governor made this disclosure, during a New Year banquet at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
The high-profile event was attended by political luminaries, including former Governor Peter Odili and his wife, Justice Mary Odili.

Fubara identified several prominent figures who have joined this new political alignment.
Their presence at the state banquet, he noted, serves as a bold public statement of their commitment to his administration and the Presidency.
The group includes Uche Secondus, former National Chairman of the PDP, Celestine Omehia, former governor of Rivers State, Austin Opara, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abiye Sekibo, former Minister of Transport.
“You are sitting with us boldly so that people will know that you are not into corner-corner business,” Fubara told the leaders. “Because you are standing with Fubara, your support is for Mr President.”
The governor used the occasion to address critics who have accused him of working against Tinubu.
He stressed that the alliance with these elders effectively dispels any “blackmail” suggesting he is disloyal to the center.
In a sharp metaphorical jab at his political opponents, Fubara quoted Julius Caesar to describe those criticizing his administration’s trajectory.
“The only reason why the dog barks is when he doesn’t understand,” the governor quipped. “We are not barking because we understand. We know where we are going, and we have set everything needed to make the journey smooth.”
Looking ahead, Fubara declared that 2026 would usher in a period of complete liberation for Rivers State.
He reassured his supporters that despite enduring a year of “sounds of war” and institutional challenges, his administration remains “unshaken” and focused on governance.
Fubara reaffirmed that his administration will never compel anyone to do what is wrong and stated that he has “lost nothing” and it is only a matter of time before the state “recovers all.”

He attributed his survival through the 2025 political crisis to his unwavering trust in God rather than “instruments of war.”
The governor expressed confidence that those standing with him today would eventually walk with their “shoulders high,” proud of the decisions they made to protect the interest of Rivers State.
