Leaders and residents of Enugu East Senatorial District have unanimously endorsed Governor Peter Mbah as their sole candidate for the 2027 governorship election, advising politicians against contesting to avoid wasting resources.
The decision was announced in a communique titled “One Good Turn Deserves Another” at the end of a town hall meeting held at the International Conference Centre, Enugu yesterday.

The communique, supported by a diverse group of thought leaders, political figures, professionals, youth, women, traditional rulers, and market leaders, emphasised a non-partisan stance, declaring, “Our political party is Peter Mbah, a performing governor.”
They praised Mbah’s transformative leadership, citing unprecedented development in Enugu State since the era of Michael Okpara.
The motion for Mbah’s adoption was moved by Chijioke Edeoga, the Labour Party’s 2023 governorship candidate, who likened his support to a biblical transformation from Saul to Paul, pledging full commitment to Mbah’s re-election.
Ben Nwoye, former APC state chairman, seconded the motion, stressing that the endorsement transcended party lines and focused on Mbah’s exemplary leadership.
The communique, presented by political veteran Deacon Ogbodo, highlighted Mbah’s achievements, including enhanced security through significant investments, allocation of 33% of the state budget to education, and the construction of 260 Smart Green Schools and 260 Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres across all political wards.
Other milestones include the launch of Enugu Air, five modern transport terminals, 100 CNG mass transit buses, and ongoing efforts to operationalise the international and cargo terminals at Akanu Ibiam International Airport.
Infrastructure achievements include 1,000km of completed or ongoing road projects, the revitalised International Conference Centre, and the construction of a 5-star ICC hotel and Enugu International Hospital.
Enugu East urged other senatorial zones to reciprocate past political support by backing Mbah in 2027, as they did for Enugu West (2007-2011) and Enugu North (2015-2019).

Former Deputy Governor Sunday Onyebuchi warned that contesting against Mbah would be futile, stating, “Any politician running against him is wasting money unless they just want the title of former governorship candidate.”
The zone’s endorsement signals strong grassroots support for Mbah’s continued leadership, positioning him as a formidable candidate for 2027.
