Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has dismissed growing speculation that he is positioning himself for the vice-presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Governor Mohammed addressed rumours circulating within political circles, clarifying that he has no personal agenda to secure the party’s vice-presidential slot.
“I am not withdrawing because I want to prepare myself for the vice presidency,” Mohammed said. “Of course, if it is within the consensus of our party leaders and the presidential candidate to choose me, I am ready. But certainly, if I am not given it, I will give my maximum support to whoever emerges.”
Mohammed, who also chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, described reports suggesting a possible joint presidential ticket between himself and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as baseless.

“I and Seyi have never discussed the issue of pairing,” he clarified. “What we have mentioned is the issue of taking over power by the grace of God so that we can give Nigerians the opportunity of good governance in 2027 and beyond.”
The governor also touched on internal party strategies, zoning, and preparations ahead of the next general election, emphasising that the focus should be on unity and providing a credible alternative to Nigerians.
His comments come amid wider conversations within the PDP over leadership restructuring and alliance-building as the 2027 polls draw closer.
