The All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly dismissed speculation that Vice President Kashim Shettima could be replaced as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 general elections.
In a press statement issued in Abuja on 26 January 2026, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, CON, described the reports as “purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless.”

The statement noted that while initial media discussions had been subtle, recent coverage had escalated by naming specific individuals as potential replacements for Shettima.
The APC attributed these stories to rumour-mongers and sources of “questionable provenance” intent on sowing discord and confusion.
Morka urged media organisations to avoid amplifying such unsubstantiated claims. He emphasised that political activities remain prohibited under current electoral laws and regulations.
Instead, the party is concentrating on backing President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The administration’s reforms, the statement said, are steadily revitalising the economy, fostering prosperity, and improving living standards for Nigerians.
The APC also called on ministers, senior government officials, and party leaders to refrain from fuelling speculation whether intentionally or otherwise and to prioritise diligent service in support of the president’s vision.

“Under our laws and electoral regulations, the ban on political activities remains in force,” the statement read.
“At this time, our Party remains focused on supporting President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in delivering the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and entrenching its bold reforms.”
The APC’s categorical denial aims to quash distractions and maintain unity as the administration pursues its governance priorities.
