The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Gombe State kicked off a statewide membership enrolment drive yesterday, aimed at bolstering its electoral prospects for the 2027 general elections.
The launch, which coincided with the inauguration of the State Transition and Membership Drive Committee, signals the party’s determination to expand its influence in the state and nationwide.
Speaking at the event, Gombe State ADC Chairman, Auwal Barde, called on residents to join the party to drive transformative change. “ADC is here to ensure development across the board.
We call on residents of Gombe to join the party to make the Nigeria and the state we yearn for possible,” Barde urged, outlining the party’s vision to rescue both Gombe and the nation from socio-economic challenges.
Former Minister of Transportation, Abdullahi Umar, dismissed rumours of internal divisions, asserting that the ADC remains united.
“Today, we constituted a committee to drive membership across the state.
They will be going to the grassroots, and this will be a continuous exercise,” Umar stated, expressing confidence in recruiting 500,000 new members in the coming months.
He acknowledged that political disagreements are common but highlighted that internal conflicts were resolved in 2024, with Barde reaffirmed as chairman by the national executive.
Umar urged party members to participate in the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), emphasising the importance of the Permanent Voter Card (PVC).
“Collection of PVCs is very important. It will give you the opportunity to decide who should represent you at different levels of government,” he noted.
The Chairman of the State Transition and Membership Drive Committee, John Yoriyo, pledged to extend the committee’s efforts beyond membership recruitment.
“We will encourage residents to register and collect their PVCs, and we will also market ADC to the grassroots,” Yoriyo said, underscoring the party’s commitment to deepening democratic participation.
