Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has declared 2026 a pivotal year of complete consolidation for the state.
He pledged to spend his final full year in office commissioning a legacy of transformational infrastructure and social projects.
Speaking yesterday at the Lagos Annual Thanksgiving Service held at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), the governor emphasised that his administration is moving with “deliberate and decisive” speed to ensure every resident feels the impact of the THEMES+ developmental agenda.

The governor’s ambitious roadmap for 2026 is fueled by a record-breaking ₦4.237 trillion budget—the highest in the state’s history—currently before the House of Assembly.
Anchored on four pillars—human-centred approach, modern infrastructure, thriving economy, and effective governance—the budget is designed to deliver a cleaner, safer, and more resilient Lagos.
“The year 2026 is particularly significant for me, as it marks my last full year as governor”, Sanwo-Olu told the congregation.
“It must be a year of extraordinary meaning, significance, and benefit for all of us. We will not waste this abundance of opportunity.”
Lagos residents can look forward to a “commissioning spree” in 2026, with several landmark projects nearing completion.
Key facilities expected to be completed and operational this year include the new Massey Children’s Hospital, Ojo General Hospital, and a specialised Psychiatric Hospital in Ketu Ereyun, Epe and the Omi Eko waterways project, which will feature electric ferries, and the completion of the Opebi–Mende Link Bridge.
Others are the extensive Central Food Security Systems and Logistics Hub in Epe and the new multi-storey office complex at the State Secretariat, Alausa.
The governor outlined a comprehensive list of road infrastructure projects scheduled for handover to communities this year, with a particular focus on the Ikorodu and Alimosho areas.
In Ikorodu, the projects include the Igbogbo–Bola Ahmed Tinubu–Igbe Road, the Agric Isawo–Konu–Arepo Road, and the Gberigbe Town link road.
For Eti-Osa/Lekki, work will be completed on Phase 2A of the Lekki-Epe Expressway, spanning Eleko Junction to Abraham Adesanya.
In Alimosho, the projects comprise the Ijegun–Ijagemo Road and the Akesan–Igando Road.
The Thanksgiving Service, themed “Grateful for Unfailing Mercies”, was attended by Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, and a host of religious and political leaders.
