Japan tops the list, with its citizens able to travel to 193 countries without a visa or with a visa on arrival. Singapore is the second on the list with its citizens having visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 192 countries. South Korea and Germany are also among the countries, with their citizens able to travel to 191 countries without a visa or with a visa on arrival.
The European Union’s visa-free travel policy among its member states has offered significantly to the strength of European passports. Countries like Italy and Finland offer their citizens visa-free access to 190 countries, while Luxembourg, Spain, and Sweden have visa-free access to 189 countries. As the Passport Index noted, “The European Union’s visa-free travel policy has made European passports some of the most powerful in the world” (Passport Index, 2023).
