The Benue State Police Command has arrested Dr. Ichor Tersagh, a lecturer at Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture, Makurdi (JOSTUM), over allegations of masterminding the abduction of Mrs. Susan Anyagh, wife of his colleague, Mr. Paul Anyagh. Mr. Anyagh is the chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), JOSTUM chapter.

The incident reportedly took place on Saturday along Otukpo Road, Makurdi. According to police reports, Mrs. Anyagh was ambushed by armed men who stole N1.3 million from her car, brutally assaulted her, and abandoned her in a bush, leaving her in critical condition.

Benue State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Catherine Anene, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Friday. She disclosed that Mrs. Anyagh was later discovered along Yandev-Ugbema Road and rushed to the Primary Healthcare Clinic in Ameladu for urgent medical treatment.

After regaining consciousness, Mrs. Anyagh provided a shocking revelation. She claimed to have spotted Dr. Tersagh, her husband’s colleague, near the site of her abduction and pleaded for his help. However, the lecturer allegedly ignored her and walked away.

The PPRO further explained how the abduction unfolded. Mrs. Anyagh had stopped along Otukpo Road to assist individuals who appeared to be in distress while returning from the NNPC Mega Fuel Station in Kanshio, where she had collected money from a customer. It was then that the attackers pounced on her.

This high-profile case has sent shockwaves through the university community, prompting calls for justice and heightened security measures. The police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing to ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice.

The incident highlights the urgent need for improved road safety and security in Benue State amid rising concerns over criminal activities.
