The World Bank has taken down its latest Nigeria Development Update (NDU) report from its website, just days after its release.
The report, titled ‘Nigeria’s Tomorrow Must Start Today: The Case for Early Childhood Development’, was published on April 7 but is no longer accessible, with a “page not found” message displayed when users attempt to download it.
Despite the removal, the accompanying press statement remains available, outlining key findings on Nigeria’s economic outlook and human capital development.
According to the report, Nigeria’s economy grew by 4% in 2025, while inflation eased to 15.1% in February 2026 from 26.3% a year earlier, attributed to tighter monetary policy and improved food supply.
The report also highlighted the urgent need for investment in early childhood development, noting that stronger human capital is essential to translate macroeconomic reforms into improved living standards and job creation.
It further revealed persistent child welfare challenges, with more than 110 out of every 1,000 children dying before the age of five and many others failing to meet basic developmental milestones.
The NDU, a biannual publication, assesses economic and social trends in Nigeria and offers policy recommendations for sustainable growth.
As of press time, the World Bank has not issued any official explanation for the removal of the April 2026 edition.
