Movie in the Park has announced its career day edition to happen May 1, a day set for workers across the country.
According to its organiser Ihechi Opara, the career day edition, powered by Campari, is to allow workers chill, relax and enjoy, while describing it as a moment to appreciate the workers for their efforts in the nation.
In his words, he said, “This edition just as the name career, implies a day to celebrate workers in the country. I see it as a mean to appreciate their efforts, sacrifices and dedication. Hence, there is a need for them to relax, enjoy the atmosphere and chill while they stay off work”
Earlier, the 2026 national tour of Movie in the Park began on a high note with its Valentine’s Day edition held on February 14 at Muri Okunola Park, drawing over 3,000 guests for an evening that blended romance, cinema and live entertainment.
The highlight of the night was the screening of Once Upon a Honeymoon by Diane Russet — its first screening in Nigeria since its release. The romantic film set the tone for an event designed to celebrate love in all its forms, from couples and friendships to shared community experiences.
Beyond the movie, the evening delivered excitement through a series of giveaways and brand activations. Durex awarded N1 million each to three couples, while Pepsi presented N200,000 to the best-dressed guest. Malta Guinness also rewarded five attendees with N250,000 each.
Guests were treated to an assortment of refreshments, including snacks from Munch It, toast bread from Hano Foods, and parfait from Reelfruit.
The celebration continued into an energetic after-party, where attendees enjoyed unlimited drinks courtesy of Gordon’s RTD. R&B performances by Tariq, Soundz and other artists kept the crowd entertained late into the night.
Opara, curator of Movie in the Park, described the Valentine edition as a deeply fulfilling moment.
“I was incredibly happy to host an edition that truly celebrated love — not just romantic love, but friendship, companionship and community. Seeing thousands of people come together to share a film, laugh, win prizes and create memories reminded us why we started this platform.”
He added: “This Lagos edition sets the tone for what we envision across the country — safe, exciting spaces where young people and families can experience cinema in a fresh way. We’re proud that the first Nigerian screening of Once Upon a Honeymoon happened here, and we can’t wait to replicate this magic in other cities.
For many attendees, the experience was unforgettable.
Amaka Johnson, said: “This was honestly the best Valentine’s Day I’ve had. From the movie to the giveaways and the live performances, everything felt intentional and well put together.”
Tobi Akinyemi, who attended with friends, stated: “The energy was amazing. Winning wasn’t even the highlight — just being part of something this big, with over 3,000 people celebrating love together, was special.”
With the Lagos edition successfully concluded, the next stop is Enugu as Movie in the Park continues its mission to bring open-air cinema and immersive entertainment experiences to audiences across Nigeria with its national tour happening this year.
