Former Nollywood actress and politician Tonto Dikeh has revealed a deeply personal part of her past, saying she once became involved in a cult and lived a life she now regrets before becoming a Christian.
The actress made the emotional disclosure during a church ministration in Tanzania, where she spoke openly about her journey through the entertainment industry, the struggles she faced, and how she believes faith eventually transformed her life.

Speaking before a congregation, Tonto said that at one point in her life she felt lost and disconnected while trying to survive in what she described as a “wicked world.”
According to her, the pressure of fame, personal battles, and the environment around her pushed her into choices she now considers dangerous and spiritually harmful.
“I had put my hands into so many dirty things and did filthy things,” she said during the service. “I joined a cult and worked so hard for the demon. I know who he is, and I know that he doesn’t have anything over me anymore.”
The actress said she had dedicated much of her life to things she now believes were against God’s purpose for her. However, she said that despite her mistakes, she believes God gave her another chance.
“The devil has lost this battle,” she added. “Today, God said no, mercy said no. I’ll take you back and clean you up.”
Tonto’s comments have since generated widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing surprise at the revelation. While some people praised her honesty and courage for speaking publicly about her past, others questioned the timing and nature of her confession.
Supporters of the actress argued that speaking openly about one’s mistakes can help others who may be struggling with similar experiences. They also said her story sends a message that people can change and rebuild their lives no matter what they have gone through.
For years, Tonto Dikeh has remained one of the most controversial and talked-about personalities in the Nigerian entertainment industry. She rose to fame in Nollywood through several successful films and became known for her outspoken nature and glamorous lifestyle.
Beyond acting, she has also been involved in politics, humanitarian work and social causes. In recent years, however, the actress has spoken more frequently about religion and her desire to live differently.
Tonto has often shared messages about prayer, healing and personal growth on her social media pages. She has repeatedly spoken about overcoming difficult experiences, including heartbreak, disappointment and criticism from the public.
Her latest confession appears to be part of that broader personal transformation.
Although she did not give specific details about the group she claimed to have joined or the exact period in her life when it happened, she insisted that she is no longer connected to that lifestyle.
The actress also said she now understands the importance of surrounding oneself with the right people and making choices that protect one’s peace and future.
Observers say her testimony reflects a growing trend among celebrities who are becoming more open about their private struggles and spiritual journeys. In recent years, several public figures have used churches, podcasts and social media platforms to share stories about depression, addiction, family problems and the pressure of life in the spotlight.
For many fans, Tonto’s revelation highlights the hidden challenges that can come with fame. Although celebrities often appear successful and happy from the outside, many still face emotional and personal battles away from the public eye.
The actress ended her speech by expressing gratitude for what she described as God’s mercy. She said she now believes her purpose is to encourage others who may feel trapped by their past.
According to her, no matter how far a person may have gone down the wrong path, it is still possible to start again.
Her testimony has continued to spark conversations online, with many people debating the role of faith, redemption and second chances in today’s society.
