Vice President Kashim Shettima has visited Maiduguri to commiserate with the Nigerian Army and the Borno State government over the recent terrorist attack in Benisheikh that claimed the lives of several personnel, including Brigadier-General Oseni Braimah.
The visit, undertaken on behalf of Bola Tinubu, was disclosed in a statement by media aide to the vice president, Stanley Nkwocha.
Shettima described the fallen soldiers as heroes who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.
“These men wore the uniform for all of us. They stood to protect our communities, our families, and the future of our children. Their courage reminds us that peace and security often come at a very heavy cost,” he said.
He assured that the federal government remains committed to tackling insecurity, adding that “criminals will have no hiding place under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The visit follows a coordinated midnight attack on a military base in Benisheikh, where suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province fighters reportedly struck multiple formations.
A surviving soldier described the assault as unusually intense and well-coordinated, noting that the attackers advanced from different directions simultaneously.
However, the Headquarters of Operation Hadin Kai dismissed reports that 17 soldiers were killed, maintaining that casualties were limited to two officers and two soldiers, in line with figures earlier released by the Defence Headquarters.
