President Bola Tinubu has stated that Nigeria’s economic situation compares favourably with that of several other African nations, despite ongoing hardship faced by citizens.
Speaking on Friday at a civic reception in Yenagoa, the president acknowledged the pressure of rising living costs, particularly fuel prices, but urged Nigerians to take a broader view of economic realities across the continent.
“Yes, I hear you from various angles of the economy. The fuel prices are biting hard,” Tinubu said. “But look around. Let’s thank God that we are better off, listening to what is happening in other African countries, what they are going through.”
He said his administration is actively working to ease the burden on citizens, directing key government agencies to develop measures to cushion the effects of global economic challenges.
“This is a government that cares. We will look at the numbers with the Ministry of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning,” he added.
Tinubu also reaffirmed the commitment of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to delivering tangible development, including infrastructure, jobs, and improved power supply.
During the visit, the president commended Douye Diri for executing key projects in Bayelsa, noting that collaboration between federal and state governments is essential for sustainable development.
He further pledged continued efforts to improve electricity supply nationwide, describing energy sufficiency as critical to Nigeria’s economic growth.
