At least 15 people have been abducted and one person confirmed dead following coordinated bandit attacks on two communities in Katsina State, further highlighting the persistent insecurity in Nigeria’s north-west region.
The incident was disclosed in a post on X on Friday by security analyst Bakatsine, who provided details of the attacks.
According to the report, the attacks occurred in Malumfashi Local Government Area, where armed bandits initially stormed Unguwar Dambu in Gora Dan Saka district. During the raid, no fewer than 15 residents were abducted by the attackers.
Hours later, the assailants reportedly moved to Gora community, launching another attack at about 3 a.m. Residents were said to have been caught off guard as the gunmen ambushed the area in the early hours of the morning.
During the second attack, two individuals were shot, with one later succumbing to injuries sustained in the assault. The situation was further compounded by the reported death of a pregnant woman, who allegedly collapsed out of fear upon hearing that bandits had invaded the community.
The attacks have once again drawn attention to the ongoing security challenges facing communities across Katsina State and the wider north-west region, where banditry, kidnappings and violent raids have become increasingly frequent.
Reacting to the development, the security analyst questioned how long communities in the region would continue to live under the constant threat of violence without sustainable solutions.
“How much longer will communities in northwest Nigeria continue to live under the constant threat of banditry without lasting security solutions?” he asked.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from security agencies or government authorities regarding the incident.
The latest attack adds to a growing list of violent incidents in the region, raising concerns among residents and stakeholders about the effectiveness of current security measures and the urgent need for comprehensive strategies to restore peace and stability.
Observers warn that without decisive and coordinated action, communities in affected areas may continue to face devastating consequences, including loss of lives, displacement and disruption of livelihoods.
