The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the interpretation of a recent Court of Appeal ruling by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing the electoral body of acting under pressure from the federal government.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, alleged that INEC’s position was influenced by a government unsettled by the opposition’s growing momentum.

The ADC described INEC’s interpretation as “contradictory” and inconsistent with the facts of the court ruling, adding that it would soon provide a detailed clarification.
“We reject INEC’s interpretation of the Court of Appeal ruling. We knew that INEC was being pressured by a government that has become jittery from the ADC’s rising momentum, even in the face of its relentless assault on opposition parties,” Mr Abdullahi said.
He added that INEC’s statement “is full of contradictions that fly in the face of both facts and reason,” stressing that the commission had effectively sided with the government against Nigerians.
“What is clear, however, is that INEC has caved to pressure and has chosen to side with the government against the Nigerian people,” he said.
The party said it is currently reviewing its options and would announce its next steps in due course.
It also urged its members and the public to remain calm and resolute as developments unfold.
“Meanwhile, we call on our members and all Nigerians to remain steadfast as they await further directives. Nigeria is rising. ADC is rising,” the statement added.
