The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) has called off its strike after its members received their March 2026 salaries.
The lecturers had stopped work since April 8 over delayed salaries and the failure to include the Earned Academic Allowance. The action lasted barely two days.
In a statement signed by branch chairman, Jurbe Molwus, the union said payment was approved shortly after the strike began. Clearance came from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.
The union confirmed that most lecturers have now received their salaries. This led to the decision to suspend the industrial action.
Despite the payment, the lecturers raised fresh concern over the exclusion of the Earned Academic Allowance. They said the omission remains a major issue.
The union asked the Federal Government to release funds for full implementation of the 2025 agreement reached with ASUU. It said this is necessary to avoid further disruption in the system.
Lecturers have been directed to return to work without delay. Academic activities, including lectures, examinations, and meetings, are to resume immediately.
The union, however, issued a warning. It said failure to address the pending allowance may force another strike before the end of April.
ASUU said it expects urgent action from the government to maintain stability in the university system.
