The Nigerian Government is ramping up its fight against terrorism, with Vice President Kashim Shettima announcing a significant increase in investment in equipment and logistics to strengthen counter-terrorism efforts nationwide.
This move follows a presidential directive to security chiefs to take decisive action against terrorist groups.
Shettima made the announcement during a visit to victims of the recent Maiduguri bomb blasts at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, where he condemned the attacks and described the perpetrators as barbaric. The bomb blasts, which occurred on Monday, affected over 100 people and left more than 20 dead.
The Vice President’s visit was aimed at sympathizing with the injured and bereaved families, and assuring them of government support.
He was accompanied by senior officials, including Borno State Deputy Governor Usman Kadafur, NEMA Director-General Zubaida Umar, and the hospital’s Chief Medical Director Ahmed Ahijo.
According to Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Shettima stressed that no cause can justify the killing of innocent civilians, and vowed that those responsible for the attacks will be decisively dealt with.
The government has assured the public of its commitment to defeating terrorism, and is working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
The increased investment in counter-terrorism efforts is expected to enhance the capabilities of security agencies, enabling them to effectively tackle the scourge of terrorism in the country.
The government’s resolve to combat terrorism is evident in its actions, and Shettima’s visit aims to reassure the affected communities of their support.
