Controversial social media personality, Vincent Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan has declared that he is ready to campaign for the son of President, Seyi Tinubu, should he decide to contest the governorship race in Lagos in 2027.
The influencer pointed out that that Seyi’s purported governorship ambition is gaining momentum, as those backing the campaign are still testing the waters.
VDM said in a video shared via his Instagram page that even though had always canvassed youth inclusiveness in Nigerian politics, he had stayed clear of the political scene, but he is ready to throw himself into it to support Seyi.
He said, “If Seyi Tinubu decides to run for governorship, I’ll campaign for him. Though I don’t involve myself in politics, I’ll do it because of him.
“Based on my calculation, Seyi Tinubu is a bridge to achieving something I believe will make Nigeria work.
“I’ve been studying Seyi Tinubu’s pattern; he seems to have his father’s political mentality.”
The social commentator, however, noted that the president’s son might face challenges in his ‘unconfirmed’ interest in becoming governor, due to older politicians who may feel threatened.
VDM said, “The problem is these older men know that if Seyi Tinubu becomes governor, they’ll be kicked out of power. They’ve seen the traits of his father in him, so it’ll be a problem.
“So, if he decides, which I believe won’t work, especially when his father is in office, it might be hard for him to become governor.”
He, however, noted that the possibility of Seyi becoming governor cannot be ruled out, as he cautioned that politics is a “game of interest.”
In November 2024, the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party declared that citizens would resist any attempts to impose Seyi as the next governor of the state.
This statement follows recent endorsements of Seyi as a potential successor to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2027 by some groups.
One such group, the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders, issued an endorsement in Owerri, Imo State, suggesting that Seyi would be welcomed to run for governor in Osun or Imo states, where his family is reportedly from.
Similarly, a socio-political group, Friends of Seyi Tinubu, also endorsed him, describing the president’s son as a visionary leader with a rare combination of intellect, empathy, and strategic acumen.
