A total of 16,343 students will graduate during the 55th convocation ceremony of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), as disclosed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola.
She made this announcement on Wednesday during a press briefing on activities planned for the event.
Among the graduating students, 561 will graduate with first-class honors, 3,910 with second-class upper honors, and 3,723 with second-class lower honors.
In addition, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; the co-founder of Guaranty Trust Bank, Mr. Fola Adeola; and the Managing Director of Sahara Power Group, Mr. Kola Adesina, will be honored with honorary doctorate degrees during the ceremony.
Two distinguished professors, Babajide Alo and Olukayode Hammond, will also receive the Emeritus Professor award.
Prof. Ogunsola further announced that Chief Tunde Fanimokun is constructing a ₦4 billion postgraduate building for the university. She also commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State for renovating the Ade Ajayi Hall and acknowledged Pastor Tunde Bakare’s contribution of solar panels for the Faculty of Law.
