The Consul General of the United Arab Emirates in Lagos, Mr Salem Aljaberi, has congratulated Nigeria on its 65th Independence anniversary, pledging continued efforts to strengthen bilateral ties across key development sectors.
In a statement on Tuesday, Aljaberi highlighted the progress in relations since diplomatic ties were established in 1982, describing them as rooted in mutual respect, trust, and shared ambition.
He noted that economic cooperation between the two countries has grown significantly, with non-oil bilateral trade reaching approximately USD 4.3 billion in 2024—a 56.1% year-on-year increase. By mid-2025, the UAE ranked among Nigeria’s top five import partners.

Since the opening of the UAE Consulate General in Lagos in 2019, several milestones have been achieved, including the inauguration of the UAE Visa and Attestation Centre, the launch of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce office, and numerous trade missions and investor roundtables.
Aljaberi also recalled high-level visits, including President Bola Tinubu’s trip to the UAE and visits by senior UAE officials, which have further strengthened cooperation.
Looking ahead, the Consul General expressed commitment to expanding collaboration in trade facilitation, education, healthcare, fintech, green energy, and tourism.
He also thanked Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy for their warm reception of UAE officials.
Concluding his message, Aljaberi wished Nigeria peace, progress, and greater achievements, emphasising the enduring friendship between the two nations.
