Two professors, Oseni Taiwo Afisi of the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts; and Maruf Suraqat Animashaun of the Department of Foreign Languages, also of the Faculty of Arts are vying for the position of the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics of the Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo.
The Senate of the university, at its Special Meeting held virtually on Monday, 16th December, 2024, considered the presentation of candidates for election to the position by the Vice-Chancellor.
Senate had at its 316th Statutory Meeting held on Thursday, 28th November, 2024, approved the schedule of activities for election to the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) and invited applications from interested professors for the position.

Both candidates were deemed qualified to seek election into the position.
According to the timetable of activities released by the Senate for the election, Monday, 13th January 2025, will be for the display of Voters’ List (List of Statutory Members of Senate) at Senate Secretariat, College, Faculty Offices, Schools, and Senate Whatsapp Platform.
Monday, 27th January, 2025, will be for physical election at the Special Senate Meeting from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Also on Monday, 27th January, 2025, final.announcement of results on election of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics).
The two-year tenure of the current DVC Academics, Prof. Olufunsho Omobitan would soon come to an end
