Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has called for a robust partnership between the government and academia to harness the transformative potential of research and innovation for national development.
He emphasised that collaboration is essential for leveraging advancements in technology to address pressing challenges, including security.
Tunji-Ojo made this appeal while delivering the 34th Convocation Lecture at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), as part of the institution’s academic convocation ceremony.

Speaking on the topic “Harnessing Technological Innovations: A Strategic Solution to Insecurity,” the Minister outlined key government-led initiatives that integrate cutting-edge technology to fortify Nigeria’s security infrastructure.
He stressed that the synergy between academia and government is vital to fostering innovation and driving sustainable growth.

“The endless benefits of research and development in technology and security cannot be overemphasized. A strong collaboration between the government and academia will accelerate solutions to our most complex challenges,” Tunji-Ojo said.
The Minister also highlighted the need for educational institutions to serve as hubs for innovation, equipping the next generation with the skills required to address national issues.
“Regardless of our individual backgrounds, we all have a vital role to play in the development and security of our nation. Yesterday, I had the honour of delivering the 34th Convocation Lecture at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, as part of the institution’s academic convocation ceremony”, he said.
