Tragedy struck in Benue on Thursday as nine members of a family were crushed to death by the driver of a trailer who lost control of his vehicle and rammed into their house in Okete, Otukpo Local Government Area of the State.
An eyewitness said, “The incident happened early this morning when most people were still in bed. The loud noise from the crash woke up the neighbours.”
Catherine Anene, the spokesperson for the Benue Police Command confirmed the tragic incident in a statement.
According to the statement she issued on Thursday in Makurdi, Anene said the truck rammed into a residential compound in Okete community, Otukpo in Otukpo LGA of the state very early in the morning.
She added that nine members of a family of were crushed to death in the incident.
The Benue Police spokesperson said the Command has launched investigation into the incident and will make more information available later.
Anene said, “On Thursday morning, the command received information that a trailer rammed into a compound in Okete community and killed nine persons.
“It is an unfortunate incident that occurred on Thursday.
“However, the command has launched a full scale investigation into the incident and further information would be made available to newsmen in due course,” Anene said
