Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have uncovered an underground logistics and fuel storage facility belonging to Boko Haram after overrunning several terrorist enclaves in the Timbuktu Triangle area of Borno State.
The discovery followed a series of coordinated, intelligence-led ground offensives carried out on Sunday in Chilaria, Garin Faruk and Abirma, during which troops also repelled multiple armed drone attacks launched by the insurgents.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, Lt Col Uba Sani, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, describing the operation as a major boost to ongoing counterterrorism efforts in the region.
According to the statement, the offensive was conducted under Operation Desert Sanity, a renewed military push aimed at dismantling remaining terrorist strongholds in the Timbuktu Triangle, a long-standing Boko Haram and ISWAP logistics corridor.

“Troops of the Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation Hadin Kai, have recorded further operational successes in the ongoing Operation Desert Sanity, destroying multiple terrorist camps, recovering arms and equipment, and repelling coordinated attacks by insurgents in the Timbuktu Triangle,” Sani said.
He explained that troops advanced from their harbour positions early on Sunday, January 18, 2026, and carried out deliberate clearance operations against identified terrorist enclaves, supported by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, which provided sustained intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance throughout the advance.
During the operation, troops uncovered an underground logistics storage facility stocked with fuel, petroleum and oil lubricants, medical supplies and food items, which military sources say were intended to sustain prolonged terrorist operations in the area.
Items recovered during the clearance include Baofeng radios, mobile phones, five AK-47 magazines, several rounds of 7.62×39mm special ammunition, 7.62mm NATO belted ammunition, Boko Haram and ISWAP flags, links of 12.7×108mm ammunition, diesel-powered grinding machines, large quantities of medical supplies, bags of grains and a pick-up truck.
“The recovery of these items, including the underground fuel and logistics dump, has further degraded the operational and logistical capability of the terrorists,” the statement said.
Lt Col Sani revealed that the advancing troops came under armed drone attacks from the terrorists around midday, in what appeared to be an attempt to slow the offensive. He said the attacks were successfully repelled, allowing troops to maintain their momentum.
“A second drone attack was attempted in the evening but was also decisively repelled, forcing the terrorists to withdraw and reaffirming the troops’ dominance of the area,” he added.
Despite the sustained engagements, Sani said troop morale remains high, with fighting efficiency maintained across all units involved in the operation.
He noted that while the general security situation in the area is currently assessed as calm, it remains unpredictable, prompting troops to stay on high alert.
The military high command, he said, has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the offensive until terrorist threats are eliminated.
“Troops remain resolute in their mission to dismantle terrorist networks, protect civilians and restore lasting peace and stability to the North-East,” the statement concluded.
