The Ondo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Akure, on Wednesday, upheld the victory of Lucky Aiyedatiwa as governor of the state.
The court also dismissed various lawsuits filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Agboola Ajayi.
In a judgement delivered on Wednesday and lasting over eight hours, the three-member tribunal, chaired by Justice Benson Ogubu, struck out the petition
The PDP candidate in his petition had alleged widespread irregularities and called for the cancellation of the election results.
The tribunal also dismissed similar petitions brought by other political parties, including the Social Democratic Party (SDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), and African Alliance (AA), all of which contested the legitimacy of the poll.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress polling a total of 366,781 votes to triumph over Ajayi and other contenders in the race.
Not satisfied with the outcome of the election, Ajayi and the PDP filed a lawsuit at the tribunal, calling for the cancellation of the election result.
Court of Appeal upholds Ondo gov election
Recall that the Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State, has upheld the election of Lucky Aiyedatiwa and his deputy, Olayide Adelami.
The court dismissed a challenge brought against the legitimacy of the APC primary that produced their candidacies.
