President Bola Tinubu has called on young Nigerians in the digital media space to use their platforms to foster national unity and progress, rather than division.
Speaking at the opening of the Progressives Digital Media Summit, the president emphasised the critical need for content creators and influencers to verify information before amplifying it.
In his address, Tinubu urged the youth to leverage their digital skills to build businesses, create jobs, and produce content that promotes unifying values, thereby serving as “positive catalysts for societal development.”

“I urge you to continue using digital platforms to advance our nation’s progress. Build businesses that employ others. Create content that uplifts and unites.
Use your influence to foster unity, not division,” the President said in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Tinubu praised the creativity and determination of Nigeria’s youth, describing digital media as a “driving force of economic and social transformation.”
He noted that young Nigerians are “not waiting for the future; you are building it” and that their work is redefining what is possible for the country.7
While reiterating his administration’s commitment to supporting digital innovation through initiatives like the National Digital Innovation Fund and policies for a thriving startup ecosystem, the president also cautioned against the risks of disinformation and cyber threats.

Segun Dada, the Special Assistant to the President on New Media and convener of the summit, highlighted how digital media has evolved into a powerful engine for communication and influence in less than a decade.
He stressed the importance of harnessing this force for Nigeria’s benefit while responsibly managing risks such as privacy concerns and threats to social cohesion.
