The invitation was extended by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, the current President of the G20, following a similar invitation extended by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil during his 2024 G20 Presidency.
The G20 Summit, which brings together leaders from the world’s 20 largest economies, the African Union, and the European Union, will be held under the theme: ‘Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability.’
Discussions are planned across three key plenary sessions.
The first will focus on Inclusive and Sustainable Growth, addressing issues such as the debt burden and the financing required for development.
The second session, titled “A Resilient World”, will examine climate change, disaster risk reduction, and the need for a just energy transition.
The third session, “A Fair and Just Future for All”, will explore topics including critical minerals, decent work, and the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Tinubu is expected to utilise the summit for bilateral meetings aimed at promoting his Renewed Hope Agenda and discussing regional peace, security, and development matters.
Tinubu will proceed to Luanda, Angola, for the 7th African Union (AU) – European Union (EU) Summit, set for November 24th to 25th, 2025.
The AU-EU meeting will focus on strengthening the partnership between the two continents, bringing together young leaders, innovators, and Civil Society Organisations to brainstorm solutions for shared challenges.
Key areas for discussion include climate change, inclusive development, infrastructure, the digital economy, and agribusiness.
